Columbus Update: Week of April 22, 2024
This week's Columbus update is a bittersweet one - despite a very sweet taste.
The Columbus Lions hosted their final Pancake & French Toast Breakfast of their 2023-24 season this last Saturday in the Columbus Community/Senior Center. Stay tuned to the club's Facebook page and the Calendar on the City website to be alerted when the breakfasts resume in autumn. On the behalf of the Columbus City Council and the entire Columbus community, a hearty thanks to the Lions Club for all of the good they do in our area.
- This week's meetings concerning the City include:
- April 22 Coon Creek Watershed District (CCWD) Board of Managers Meeting: 5:30 p.m. at CCWD Office
- April 23 Anoka County Board of Commissioners Meeting: 2:14 p.m. at Anoka County Government Center, Room 705
- April 24 Rice Creek Watershed District Board of Managers Meeting: 9 a.m. at Shoreview City Hall Chambers
- April 24 City Council Meeting: 6 p.m. at Columbus City Hall
- You may have heard about it from the City's newsletter, a mailer from Anoka County or from the signs posted on Kettle River Boulevard, but the Anoka County Human Services Department is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event in City Hall's parking lot! Bring your aerosols, automotive fluids, batteries, cleaners, fertilizer, fuel, lights, paint, pesticides, prescription medications, propane tanks, sharps and more on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Learn more about the drive-thru event, including the entire list of accepted materials, on Anoka County's website.
- The Columbus Local Board of Appeals and Equalization Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 for 6 p.m. at Columbus City Hall. If you attend this meeting, it might look like you're walking into a normal Council meeting. However, the topic of this meeting is not City business, but instead to present an opportunity to landowners in the City to appeal their property's 2024 Estimated Market Value, which is utilized to determine that parcel's tax burden in 2025. Can't make it to this meeting? Call the Anoka County Assessor's Office at 763-323-5400 and request to speak with the assessor assigned to Columbus, or call City Hall.
