Update for the Week of October 17, 2022

Early Voting

The 2022 general election is in full swing - only 22 days remain until Election Day!

However, Columbus residents do not need to wait 22 days to vote.

Early voting started on September 23, 2022, and will continue all the way until the day before Election Day. Columbus residents can vote early in-person at City Hall from today until November 7, 2022. Normal office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Frida, but City Hall stays open until 5 p.m. every Wednesday. Additionally, City Hall will be open Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. as well as extended 8 a.m.-5 p.m. hours on Monday, November 7.

Voting by mail is also still available. To request a mail-in ballot, you'll need to apply for one through Anoka County. You can learn more abou that process HERE.

Park Portable Toilets

Temperatures are projected to be in the high 60s and low 70s this weekend, setting us up for some perfect days to enjoy some time outside. But don't let the warm front fool you - winter is on the horizon, as was made all too well known on Friday when Columbus woke up to its first measurable snow of the season.

As the City begins its winter preparations, keep in mind that the temporary portable toilets that have been in Columbus City Park all summer will be removed next week after temperatures retreat to a more seasonably-appropriate range. Until temperatures start warming up in the spring and the toilets return, park visitors will need to plan accordingly.

Lamprey Pass

The City of Columbus is realigning West Freeway Drive, which will impact access to Lamprey Pass Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for the foreseeable future.

Starting October 25, 2022, the current alignment of West Freeway Drive will be closed, effectively closing the parking lot on the east side of Lamprey Pass WMA and Mud Lake's boat access. Lamprey Pass visitors will need to plan on accessing the WMA via the parking lots and entrances either on the south side (located west of 8929 Lake Dr. NE) or the northwest side (located at the intersection of 165th Ave. and Kettle River Blvd, southwest of 16529 Kettle River Blvd.).
