Hwy 23 (Lake Dr NE) & Hwy 62 (Kettle River Blvd NE) Project Open House
Join us for a project open house on July 14th, 2025, 5 pm - 7 pm at the Columbus Senior Community Center to learn more about the project.
Here are some details about the project.
Anoka County is planning to construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of County State Aid Highway 23 (Lake Drive NE) and County State Aid Highway 62 (Kettle River Boulevard NE).
The crash rate at the existing intersection is higher than the statewide average for intersections of this type, and traffic through the area is forecasted to increase with future developments in the area. Changing this intersection will improve safety and maintain traffic flow throughout the corridor.
Project Goals:
- Improve safety and mobility in the area
- Establish continuity with other road designs in the region
- Meet the needs of current and future planned development in the area
A single-lane roundabout is anticipated to provide the best safety performance out of all the alternative design options that were considered for this intersection. According to MnDOT, roundabouts show an 87% decrease in fatal crashes and a 67% overall decrease in injury crash rates. They also have been proven to increase traffic flow efficiency, yielding fewer delays than most traffic signals and stop signs. This proposed roundabout will resemble many other recently constructed roundabouts in Anoka county, such as:
- CSAH 22 (Viking Boulevard) and CSAH 7 (Rum River Boulevard) intersection – City of Oak Grove
- CSAH 62 (Kettle River Boulevard) and CSAH 18 (Broadway Avenue) – City of Columbus
- CSAH 42 (Bridge Street) and Poppy Street at Lake George Boulevard – City of St. Francis
